This is VGPS demo run under phone emulator provided by MicroEmulator. Because of limitation of the phone emulator (no connect to Bluetooth GPS receiver and no audio support), VGPS will simulate GPS Tracking function and will not speak to you when you use AutoRouting function. If you want to try GPS tracking and voice guidance functions, you need to install VGPS on a real phone. If you could not see a phone emulator at the left hand side with VGPS run in it, your browser does not have java applet plug-in. You can download JDK 5.0 Update 12 from Sun website. After you install JDK 5.0, your browser will have java applet plug-in and you can run VGPS applet emulator. If you want to get street map data for your city from OpenStreetMap project, you also need to have JDK 5.0 Update 12 in your PC.
How to use VGPS:
1. Click on key FIRE or key 5 to open the menu. Key FIRE is the key in centre of 4 arrow keys. Key 5 is the key in centre of key 2, 4, 6, 8. When the menu is opened, use key UP, key DOWN or key 2, key 8 to highlight menu command. Click key FIRE again will execute the selected menu command. Click on menu will execute the selected menu command as well.
2. Click on arrow keys or key 2, 4, 6, 8 to move the cursor around. You can move the pointer by click anywhere on the screen. In lock pointer mode, if you click on an area on the screen, VGPS will centre to that area.
3. Users can change color scheme of the map by selecting setup and choose which object color they want to change and key-in RGB value of the color for this object. VGPS accepts color in RGB format (Red, Green, Blue) from 0 to FFFFFF. It means that users have about 16 million colors to choose from for each object.
How to manage route/waypoints
1. User can define and manage up to 5 routes. To manage route and waypoints, select Route/Waypoints from main menu
2. Each route can contain up to 20 waypoints.
3. User can assign/edit label for each route/waypoint. The label will help to memorize route/waypoint easily.
4. User can append a waypoint at the end of the route or insert a waypoint at the middle of the route.
5. User can delete one waypoint or delete all waypoint of the route.
6. User can save and load a route. User can also revert a route --> waypoint end becomes waypoint start.
7. Route will appear on the map with highlight colour, waypoint will appear on the map as a flag. User can change the colour of route and waypoint.
8. With this feature, user can plan a route before they go out and if user use this feature together with GPS receiver, VGPS will able to guide them along the route, go through all waypoints until reach the waypoint end of the route.
How to use AutoRouting function
To use AutoRouting function, you need to define a waypoint start and a
waypoint end, then you select AutoRouting from main menu.
1. To define a waypoint start, you can use arrow keys to move the
cursor to your start point, or you can use search street or search
point function to search for your start point. Then you select
Route/Waypoints from main menu, select append or insert the current
point to the list of waypoints.
2. To define a waypoint end, you can use arrow keys to move the
cursor to your end point, or you can use search street or search
point function to search for your end point. Then you select
Route/Waypoints from main menu, select append or insert the current
point to the list of waypoints.
3. When you append or insert a point to the list of waypoints, the
order of waypoints will be changed. However, the first waypoint in the
list always is waypoint start and the last waypoint in the
list always is waypoint end.
4. When you revert a route, waypoint end will become waypoint start
and waypoint start will become waypoint end.
5. After you have defined waypoint start and waypoint end, you can
select AutoRouting from main menu. VGPS will calculate the route and
if the path was found, VGPS will automatic guide you along the route with explicit turn arrow.
6. When AutoRouting, VGPS will rotate the map so that the top direction of the map is the facing direction (heading) of the viewer. You can turn on/off this feature by check/uncheck "In Car Navigation When Tracking/Routing" option in setup menu.
7. There is an option "Load Routing Nodes Into Memory" in setup menu. If your phone have a lot of memory, you can try to load all routing nodes into memory so that VGPS can calculate route faster.
You can watch the demo movie below to known how to use "AutoRouting" function. If you could not see the movie, you may need to download flash player from: http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer
